How the Petrol price finder works
You can use this tool to help you:
- find the cheapest fuel near you
- stay as close as possible to your budget.
The Petrol price finder asks you:
- where you are

Where does the data come from?
The UK Government provides this data through its Fuel Finder service helping you to find the cheapest fuel near you.
All the UK’s 8,000 plus service stations must report price updates within 30 minutes of any change.
The updates are then shared across online fuel price checker tools like MoneyHelper so you can compare prices easily.
Tips on cutting fuel costs
Fill on the way
The cheapest fuel is the one you don't have to drive out of your way for. Avoid driving more than 2 miles (round trip) for every 1p saved per litre.
Other ways of getting there
While small per-tank savings can help over time, it might be worth comparing the costs of alternative transport.
Some people might be able to save by using public transport, car sharing or travel passes where that’s possible.
When you need to drive
Motoring organisations suggest:
- checking tyre pressures
- reducing speed
- driving smoothly
- removing extra weight in the boot or roof racks/boxes to reduce drag.
